I’ve always loved numbers. There’s something absolutely satisfying about making sense of what can feel messy or overwhelming.

My journey into finance began as a volunteer at the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA), where I discovered a real passion for taxes. Many people see them as confusing or intimidating, but once you understand the process, it becomes straightforward — and even empowering. Later, I joined Twaweza East Africa as a finance consultant, reconciling accounts and supporting financial systems. I’ve always known that working with numbers is where I shine, and I enjoy building systems that help others manage their finances confidently.
Today, as Finance and Administrative Officer at Kiungo, I manage our books, ensure compliance, handle administrative tasks like contracts and board minutes, and support the director in exploring ways to grow the company. I’m guilty to admit that I feel most confident during tax time, when I know everything is in order and Kiungo is fulfilling its obligations responsibly.

Compliance, to me, is more than rules — it’s being part of a bigger system. Like a team of five completing a shared document, every contribution matters. When each person does their part, the result is seamless; if someone falls short, the whole effort suffers. In society, paying taxes and following regulations is my way of not being “that person,” who makes the whole effort suffer. I try to be the person who does my part and helps others do theirs, because strong teams and strong systems rely on each member showing up fully.
But my work is not just about numbers. It’s about helping people and organizations by meeting them where they are. I guide colleagues and partners through financial processes in ways that make sense for them, rather than imposing a single method. Seeing someone grasp a concept, take control of their finances, and grow from there is incredibly rewarding. And this is the powerful part of my work with our partners – helping them to build the systems they want to reflect the values they hold.

I’m especially proud to have been part of Kiungo from its start-up phase, helping lay strong foundations and watching it grow over time. Being part of this journey has shown me that the work I do behind the scenes matters — it enables our team and organisation to succeed, and contributes to a community that values integrity, responsibility, and growth. My work is about numbers, yes, but it’s also more about people, trust, and making a meaningful impact on the organisations and communities I serve.
